Building Strong Foundations for Kindergarten and Beyond

Preschool

Classroom Information

Threes/Pre-K

The preschool classroom focuses on fostering independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. The preschool program is the beginning of a structured, daily schedule with the introduction of school-like academics as children work on important skills needed for kindergarten.

Children in the preschool program will build confidence as they practice listening, following multi-step directions, and working with other friends. The daily routine includes circle (large group) time, music and movement, outdoor play, creative arts, and other hands-on activities that encourage social interactions and problem-solving while building academic skills.

Three year olds spend a lot of time asking “why” as they observe and question everything that happens around them. While adults will not always have the answers to the “why...” questions, answering in simple, to-the-point responses will broaden their knowledge, expand curiosity, and teach them to think more clearly.

A child’s sense of time becomes more clear at age 3 which is why daily routine is important. A child’s own set of special interests and talents may present at this age, which is the perfect opportunity to expose them to places like museums, zoos, and a variety of other educational settings.

Fours/Pre-K

The pre-K classroom focuses on continued independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. The pre-K program follows the same structured, daily schedule and preschool with the continued practice of school-like academics as children master important skills needed for kindergarten.

The pre-K daily routine includes circle (large group) time, music and movement, outdoor play, creative arts, and other hands-on activities that encourage social interactions and problem-solving while building academic skills. A full schedule of daily activities is provided separately!

By age 4, it is natural for children to be curious about their bodies and the bodies of others as their awareness grows. Moments will arise when children discuss their bodies (or others) and we use those moments to teach body autonomy, personal boundaries, and respecting personal space in age-appropriate ways. Our goal is to teach children that their bodies belong to them and we practice clear language to help them learn to set boundaries and respect the boundaries of friends. Children should develop a health understanding of their bodies which building kindness and respect for others.

Fives Program

Children who turn 5 years old and do not go immediately to kindergarten will continue to work on our core learning and development standards from preschool and pre-k, with additional emphasis on kindergarten-required items.
